I painted this map as a gift for a friend who lives in Smithers, British Columbia, yet works in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The map portrays the imaginary journey he would make if he had to walk to work. I employed an unusual projection to capture the northeast-southwest trend of the route, an oblique transverse Mercator projection along the Great Circle route that passes through both Smithers and Yellowknife.
